Beat The Heat: Magnetic Craft Stick Picture Frame

Anyone else experiencing sweltering weather? Last week I told my best friend that it is too hot here to enjoy the swimming pool.

It’s true, the pool doesn’t even feel refreshing when it is 115 degrees outside. Unfortunately, there have been quite a few of those not so pleasant days this summer which have forced me and the little guy inside.

On the flip side of that sad reality is the fact that we have enjoyed our time inside! We have done everything from playing board games to reading lessons. We have colored enough pages and made enough crafts to fill the little guy’s playroom. And on occasion I even remembered to take photos of our crafts so that I could share our mini masterpieces with you.

It just so happens that we had Craft Sticks in various colors. However, painting craft sticks would have added to the fun and creativity of this little project.

Creating a red and blue Magnetic Craft Stick Picture Frame was a given. Both boys like those two colors together and they just happen to be the colors of our favorite school. (GO CATS!)

We also made an orange and blue picture frame with my sister in mind. Her favorite colors are orange and blue. Since my sister recently got engaged I printed a quick “I do!” to adorn her frame until she fills it with a photo to place on her refrigerator.

Supplies Needed
7 Craft Sticks
Small Piece of Foam Paper
Craft Glue or Glue Gun
Magnet Strip

The pictures below show our steps to create Magnetic Craft Stick Picture Frames.

The right and left sides of the frame are each two craft sticks wide. Place two craft sticks on each side then glue a craft stick across the top and the bottom of the frame to secure it.

Cut a thin piece of foam to fit the inside of the frame. This foam piece will later hold the photo in place and keep it from falling out.

Align and glue two craft sticks across the back side of the frame to match the two across the front.

Next glue a craft stick diagonally across the back of the Magnetic Craft Stick Picture Frame. This craft stick will hold the picture in place.

Add magnet strips to the back of the frame. Cut a photo to size then slide it into the top of the Magnetic Craft Stick Picture Frame then hang.

Next up is a green and purple Magnetic Craft Stick Picture Frame per my little guy’s request.

What have you been doing to beat the heat this summer?
