Simple DIY Pallet Planter

This project has been on my list for quite some time. When the opportunity came up to participate in a Pallet Projects Challenge I knew immediately that the time had come to mark this Simple DIY Pallet Planter off my list of things to do.

Last year we removed the shrubs and small trees that lined the back wall of our house. Removing all of the vegetation had left the exterior wall of our house colorless and boring. While my husband and I have contemplated several ideas for that space we have yet to settle on one. Therefore the wall that faces our backyard remains a blank canvas begging for a cheerful Spring addition.

Enter a Simple DIY Pallet Planter. An Upcycled Pallet Flower Garden.

The look I had in mind for our Upcycled Pallet Flower Garden was half the width of a full size pallet. I imagined it would be painted a bright bold color and filled with wildflowers spilling over the edges. Well, I got the bright bold color. The flowers on the other hand have yet to grow from the seeds I so carefully planted. Plan B, quick and easy annual flowers until I can get back to work on Plan A.

1.   Using a Circular Saw cut the horizontal wood slats just outside of the middle vertical slat on the back side of the pallet.

2.   Make the same cuts to the slats on the front side of the pallet.

3.   Plan the number of rows you would like your flower garden to have. Then remove the slats using a Double End Nail Puller and nail them back into the spaces envisioned.

Our Pallet Planter required a redesign.
I wanted three rows that were the same size and a smaller top row.

4.   If desired, paint the upcycled pallet planter. (Might I suggest a bright bold color like Oasis Blue. I LOVE THIS COLOR!!)

5.   After the paint dries, create a secure shelf-like understructure to hold the soil and flowers. Using a Staple Gun attach Coco Liners to serve as ‘shelves’. Our Coco Liners were basket shaped however this Bulk Coco Liner would work even better.

6.   Add soil, seeds (or annuals), water and sunshine.
