Washi what? Washi Tape! If you have not heard of this crafting craze then read on… Washi Tape is a rice paper type tape that comes in what seems like an endless array of solid colors and creative patterns. The width of the tape is thin and it is extremely versatile when it comes to decorating ANYTHING!
Workman Publishing sent me a copy of Amy Anderson’s new book Washi Tape Crafts: 110 Ways to Decorate Just About Anything. If anyone knows about crafting with Washi Tape, it’s Amy! Amy Anderson is the creator of Washi Tape Crafts, Mod Podge Rocks Blog, and the author of Mod Podge Rocks!
110 ways to decorate indeed! This new book (October 2015) has it ALL. Page after page amazed me with simple tutorials, fun ideas and full colorful photos. Clocks, keys, greeting cards, vases, jewelry and on page 143 a Doodle Dry Erase Board!
The best part about this new book is that it comes with ten rolls of tape (18 feet each). That’s 180 feet of decorative paper tape!! And the custom-designed patterns were created specifically for this book. I used two of the coordinating designs of Washi Tape to add a little color to a boring white candle.
To create a Washi Tape candle or vase you will need:
1-2 (or more) rolls of Washi Tape
Craft Knife or Scissors
2 Wood Disks
(the ones I used can be found here)
Craft Glue
Layer desired Washi Tape around the candle or vase. Just peel & stick it! Then add Washi Tape to both wood disks and trim the excess tape. Glue the larger disk in place then glue the smaller disk to the larger disk. That’s it! So simple.
Washi Tape makes decorating easy! JUST PEEL, STICK, CREATE!
Amy Anderson’s Washi Tape Crafts book including 110 Ways To Decorate With Washi Tape would make for an awesome gift! It is an all in one kit ready to go for savvy crafters and non-crafters alike. I can’t wait to design my own cards and envelopes with the Washi Tape included in this kit.
Another fun gift for the card creator is THE COMPLETE BOOK OF CHALK LETTERING: Create and Develop Your Own Style; another Workman Publishing October 2015 release. And one that Workman also generously sent to me. Now, I’m off to find my font style…
