A few years ago I made a set of DIY Ceramic Tile Photo Coasters. My coasters are still in perfect condition and I absolutely love them and cherish the memories of each photograph.

Directions:

Step One
Print the photos that you would like to use in black & white onto regular printer paper.  I suggest nothing larger than a 4×6 print as you will need to cut it down to a square.  Cut the photos into squares using your ceramic tiles to judge the size of photo you’d like, leaving at least 1/4 inch of tile around the edges.  Use a sponge to apply Mod Podge to the back of the printed photos then allow 2-3 hours for the tiles to dry completely.  Rinse the sponge so that it is ready for step two.

Step Two
Once the paint has dried, apply a layer of Mod Podge over the top of the photo on the tile.  Using your sponge paint brush move left to right keeping the strokes even.  Mod Podge is not the most forgiving when it comes to texture and so you will want even lines across the tiles.  Again, allow time to dry completely.

Step Three
Repeat with three more layers of Mod Podge, allowing each layer to dry completely before applying the next coat.

Step Four
Once you have four coats of Mod Podge applied and dried to the top of the photo tiles it is time to apply the Acrylic Sealer.  Which means, it is time to make the coasters waterproof!  Place the Ceramic Tile Photo Coasters on a piece of cardboard then spray each tile with a hefty layer of Acrylic Sealer.  (Due to the fumes I prefer to do this step outside.) Repeat this step four times allowing each coat to dry completely before applying the next coat of Acrylic Sealer.

Step Five
Cut and apply the Craft Felt to the back side of coasters.  I prefer the “peel & stick” felt however gluing felt to the back of each would also do the trick.
