From weekend getaways to weddings, birthdays to Father’s Day and everything in between we choose the Bahia Resort Hotel in San Diego.
It is no secret that the Bahia Resort Hotel in San Diego holds a very special place in my heart. The lush property along Mission Bay is my favorite EVERYTHING destination. The Bahia is where my husband booked our surprise engagement weekend and where we were later married. It is where we spend most spring breaks and Father’s Days. The Bahia is also the place of our first date and where our family has spent countless birthdays, getaway weekends, anniversaries and family vacations.
To say that I highly recommend a visit to the Bahia Resort Hotel on Mission Bay is an understatement. My first visit to the Bahia was in 2001. Ironically, my first impression was not at all a good one. However, after 18 years of frequenting the Bahia; up to six times a year during many of those years, I have come to love the location, property and private beach.

The location is absolutely perfect. The Bahia Resort is just 15 minutes from the airport and downtown. It is situated close to Sea World and just over a half hour south of Legoland. The property is also close to both I-5 and I-8. Most importantly, this prime spot is just a few minute walk to Mission Beach, Belmont Park and the boardwalk.
Aside from the location the property itself is beautiful. The landscape is green and well kept. Bahia’s private beach is raked every morning and there are several Cabana chairs for guests to use at their own will. On the private beach side of the property is a marina docked with boats including the Bahia Belle and the historic William D. Evans sternwheeler. The Belle offers evening cocktail cruises across the bay. (Guests of the hotel ride for free.)
During our stays at the Bahia it is rare that we do not have breakfast at the Cafe Bahia. We have grown fond of several people on the restaurant staff. The Tangier Bar sits next to the restaurant. The quaint bar offers a relaxing spot to enjoy drinks and appetizers.
Bahia Resort Hotel
The location, property and private beach are incredible; however, the rooms do not quite rank the same. While the hotel rooms are big and comfortable, the outdated decor seems to be an issue for many guests. Many of my friends and several fellow reviewers have shared that the nightly rate is overpriced for the outdated rooms. Maybe so. However, don’t let that stop you from taking a look! In my opinion, the location more than makes up for the off-peak winter prices. (I am not a big fan of their peak rates.)
A quick google search will reveal endless images of the Bahia Resort Hotel. Again, reviewers have shared their feeling of being jaded when booking their room. To give my readers a ‘real’ inside look I personally took pictures of the insides of the hotel rooms (two YouTube videos below).
