My son recently requested that we hang an American Flag. With Memorial Day, Flag Day and Independence Day all in the coming months, summer time felt like a great time to show our patriotism.
I love to create almost as much as I love our country’s stars and stripes. And so, rather than hanging an American Flag with thirteen stripes and fifty stars I created a Wooden American Flag with seven stripes and five stars.
Wooden American Flag; Patriotic Yard Decor
My Supply List:
– Long Piece of Wood for ‘flag pole’
– 8 Wood Stakes
– 5 Metal Stars (or star shaped stencil)
– Red, White & Blue Paints
– Matte Spray Acrylic Coating
– Saw, Drill, Screwdriver & Screws
– Tape
Optional: Sandpaper
Optional: Brown Paint for ‘flag pole’
Cut the piece of wood for the ‘flag pole’ to desired height.
Tape off the stars area on three of the stakes.
Paint four stakes, red; Paint three stakes, white; Paint the taped off area blue.
Paint the flag pole desired color.
After the stakes dry, paint the other side of them.
Line up the seven painted stakes on the flag pole.
Drill holes into the stakes and secure them with screws.
Use the 8th wood stake as a brace on the backside of the flag.
Cut it to size then drill holes, screw it into place and paint it.
If desired, use sandpaper to scuff the front side of the flag to give it more of a worn look.
Spray a light layer of acrylic coating over the painted stakes.
Align stars in desired position then drill holes and secure with screws.
Wooden American Flag.
Simple to create and a wonderful way to show patriotism this summer.
