This Thankerchief Activity is a great addition to the traditional Thanksgiving game of sharing the things we are thankful for.
This activity can be played in many different settings. For years our family had a Thanksgiving dinner tradition that included a Thankerchief. The handprinted handkerchief was created by my sweet little cousin when she was just a child. Our entire family would recite the memorized poem while we passed the Thankerchief around the table and when we came to the end of the poem the person holding the Thankerchief would share something they were thankful for. We repeated the poem and the passing of the handkerchief until every family member had shared their Thanksgiving offering which sometimes required speeding up or slowing down our enunciation of words to ensure the Thankerchief landed with someone who had yet to share.

Supplies Needed:
- White Handkerchief or Linen Napkin
- Fabric Paints
- My Free Printable with the Thankerchief Poem
- Printer
- Printer Paper or Cardstock
- Paper Cutter or Scissors

Thankerchief Instructions:
First, paint the palm of a child’s hand with fabric paint then firmly press the little hand onto the center of a handkerchief (or linen napkin). Be sure to lift the little hand straight up to ensure the handprint does not smear.
Next, paint on turkey legs, a beak and anything additional that you would like drawn onto your turkey or written on your Thankerchief. After the paint has dried and you have printed the poem your Thanksgiving game is ready to go!
Thanksgiving Game Instructions:
Gather at the Thanksgiving table or in a circle elsewhere then begin the game by passing the Thankerchief counterclockwise while reciting the poem. When the poem comes to an end the person holding the Thankerchief share what they are thankful for. Repeat the passing of the handkerchief and reciting the chant until everyone has had the opportunity to share something they give thanks for.
