Fruit, Chocolate and Cake. Fireworks, family and celebrations. Red, White and Blue Fruit Skewers, BBQs and Patriotic Holidays.
Independence Day BBQs and Olympic Celebrations call for Red, White and Bluefoods. Fourth of July carnivals and county fairs have proven that Americans are drawn to foods served on a stick.
The five year old at my house is ALL AMERICAN. As soon as I told him about my plan to make Red, White and Blue Fruit Skewers he wanted to stop everything and assemble this simple Patriotic treat. Just like Banana Split On A Stick these Fruit and Cake Skewers come together in minutes. And so we stopped everything to make them.
Red, White and Blue Fruit Skewers
- 12 Skewers
- 1 Pound Cake
- 36 Small Strawberries
- 1 Carton of Blueberries (or 72 Blueberries)
- 1 Cup White Chocolate Chips
Makes 12 Red, White and Blue Fruit Skewers
Slice Pound Cake across the middle to create two layers of cake.
Cut Pound Cake lengthwise into thirds.
Cut 6 rows of 1 – 1 1/2 inch squares to create 36 Pound Cake squares.
Wash Strawberries and Blueberries then cut the tops off of the Strawberries. Pat fruit dry and/or allow a few minutes for the Strawberries and Blueberries to dry.
Add one Strawberry, one square of Pound Cake and two Blueberries onto a skewer. Repeat the Strawberry, Cake, Blueberries pattern two more times until each skewer has a total of 12 pieces on them.
Chill Red, White & Blue Fruit Skewers in the refrigerator for five minutes.
Melt White Chocolate Chips in a microwave safe bowl. (I heat one cup of Chocolate Chips for 50 seconds to one minute in my microwave.)
Mix Chips until they have all melted and the Chocolate is smooth.
Drizzle melted Chocolate over all Red, White and Blue Fruit Skewers. Store in the refrigerator in an airtight container.
Share this simple Patriotic treat with friends, family at Summer parties and celebrate the Red, White and Blue.
