Mama’s Handbag. Because Mamas, Mommies, Aunties and Grandmas could all use an extra hand. And many times they need much more than a hand. Think BAG.
Nearly twenty years ago I made my Grandma a handbag using the hands of two sweet 3 1/2 year old little ones. My Grandmother cherished the bag and it made me smile every time I saw her using it. One side of the bag was marked with my oldest’s handprints while the other side was marked with my little cousin’s handprints. It was Mama’s Handbag and she loved it.
Mama’s Handbag is simple to create and it is sure to be cherished by the Mama, Mommy, Auntie or Grandma in your life because all too soon little hands will turn into twenty year old hands.
Mama’s Handbag: A Personalized Gift
Supplies Needed:
Canvas Bag
Fabric Paints
Plates
Little Hands
Simple Instructions:
Pre-wash the Canvas Bag. Select the colors of Fabric Paints you’d like to use then add a bit of each color to a plate or another flat surface. Next, smear those little hands in the paint and press them down onto the blank Canvas Handbag.
It is best to allow for dry time between each chosen color to ensure the colors do not blend or bleed into one another. If desired, add a few words or the date after the handprints have dried. Scribbles paints make great paint pens if you do add a message!
On my Grandma’s handbag I added the words “Mama’s Handbag” to the side with my oldests handprints since he called her “Mama”. Then I added “Grandma’s Handbag” to the other side that was covered in my little cousin’s handprints because to her, she was “Grandma”.
After the sides dried I added the date as a reminder of when it was that my son and my cousin’s hands were so tiny.
And there you have yet another creation made with the prints of little hands. I truly can’t get enough of the tiny fingers that get too big too fast. A Helping Hand, a Hand Made Flag Shirt, my Made With Love Canvas, the Thankerchief and a few Christmas ornaments have all donned my boys’ handprints and I will cherish them always.
A personalized gift for Mother’s Day, Birthdays, Grandparent’s Day or Christmas.
